Statement on Faith
Regarding the ELO Forums
ELO exists to connect, equip and celebrate Christian marketplace and entrepreneurial leaders. The niche of the ELO Forums is to focus on content that would appeal to this market segment. Further, we select speakers who would appeal to this group.
The vast majority of our speakers are professing Christians and from a wide range of denominations. Often when we interview entrepreneurs as part of their presentation we will focus on their faith and entrepreneurial journey and, in particular, how their faith shapes their approach to business. Many speakers are quite transparent about their Christian faith.
At the same time, we welcome a small number of speakers who are either of no faith or a different faith—but to be part of our event they need to be respectful of Christianity and of this particular audience. These types of presenters are included if we believe that they have a message that would be of interest to our group.
At the same time, we are clear about our niche which is to serve and edify the Christian business community—this is done by having a majority of Christian presenters. There is no point in having ELO Forums if we were simply replicating the many excellent mainstream business events which have no faith-related component. By contrast, ELO provides something unique and delivered with excellence to its constituency which it cannot get elsewhere.
We address this issue because occasionally people will ask whether a particular presenter was a Christian (on the assumption that they would be) and may be surprised if they are not. Or some attendees may ask about the denomination of a particular speaker (on the assumption that it was not their own, and preferred, denomination).
Overall, we encourage attendees to focus on what unites Christian marketplace and entrepreneurial leaders—rather than highlight differences.
