About the Presenter

Deani Van Pelt, PhD, is passionate about education. She is president of Edvance, an industry association serving 100 Christian elementary and secondary schools in Ontario, Canada.

Formerly a math and business teacher in both public and Christian high schools, a homeschool parent, and an Associate Professor of Education and Director of Teacher Education at Redeemer University, Van Pelt is a Senior Fellow at the think tank Cardus, and the Fraser Institute and is also a Visiting Research Fellow in Charlotte Mason Studies at the University of Cumbria, UK and a Non-Resident Visiting Fellow at Baylor University’s Center for School Leadership.

Van Pelt has researched and published frequently on aspects of school choice, school sector enrolments, education outcomes, and Charlotte Mason philosophy and pedagogy. She has led many international research collaborations, some funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is chair of the Standards of Practice and Education Committee at the Ontario College of Teachers and has presented at numerous academic and education conferences across North America, serves as expert witness, and has been regularly featured in Canadian print and broadcast media.
