About the Presenter

As founder of Fast + Epp, Paul is passionate about design excellence. He has been recognized for his unconventional use of materials, emerging as a leader in architecturally exposed structures, often pushing the design envelope to create hybrids of timber, concrete, and steel. For over three decades, Paul has been the design lead for many of the firm’s most significant award-winning projects, including the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre, the Kingsway Pedestrian Bridge, and the 18-storey Tallwood House at UBC.

Paul was named an Honorary Member of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers in the United Kingdom in 2010.

In 2021, Paul was awarded the Gold Medal from the Institution of Structural Engineers based in London, England for his exceptional contributions to the advancement of structural engineering.

He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture.

Paul and his wife Ruth have been blessed with 9 children (all married) and 27 grandchildren. They are active in their local church and in serving orphaned children in Russia.
